  • The Coasters are an American rhythm and blues/rock and roll vocal group that had a string of hits in the late 1950s. Beginning with "Searchin'" and "Young Blood," their most memorable songs were written by the songwriting and producing team of Leiber and Stoller. Although the Coasters originated outside of mainstream doo wop, their records were so frequently imitated that they became an important part of the doo wop legacy through the 1960s.

Changing music tastes and lineup changes ended the group's chart success in the 1960s, but the group still tours occasionally, though with a completely different lineup (Gardner retiring and his son, Carl Gardner Jr. taking the reins, most of the other members have passed on) and appears on PBS "oldies" shows. The "classic" lineup (Gardner Sr, Guy, Jones and Gunter) were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1987.

Davies rejoined the band in 2005 after Collins left the band for work with the surviving members of The Dragons. Currently, The Coasters' releases are distributed by Label Records in the Wikinations and by Reprise Records everywhere else. They played on the Label Records Festival in March 2012. They have been regulars at the Party Out of Bounds Festival since 2009.
