| Desirability | - Very dubious. 100 extra speed points is certainly a very useful thing; but dooming, corruption and cursing are a very steep price to pay for these. Whilst the speed boost greatly facilitates ranged tactics against or escape from dangerous monsters, the terrible luck they bring may cause other problems for the PC — such as creating the possibility of them being eaten by a grue in darkness, which the extra speed can't save them from. The fact that they corrupt just by carrying adds further risk to PCs intending on lugging them around just in case such an emergency comes up.
Furthermore, the boots are considerably troublesome to get; not only can the Quickling Tree be frustrating to clear due to the equipment restrictions and huge swarms of quicklings, also unless the RNG is generous many PCs will get quite badly corrupted before they get the two specific corruptions needed to enter the Quickling Tree. Many players won't bother getting the boots for a combination of these reasons.
