| abstract | - The Grim Wardens are a loyalist Space Marine chapter founded in the 34th Millennium amid the 8th Founding as a Successor Chapter of the Imperial Fist. The Grim Wardens were formed to expand the reach of the Imperium in the God Emperor's name, they keep their campaigns to the Eastern Fringes. This noteworthy Chapter has waged many battles against the Dark Eldar, Necrons, Orks, the Tau and the Tyranids, however, their greatest foe can be found within the Forces of Chaos, the heretical Chaos Space Marines of the Plague Mongers Legion. The Grim Wardens have continued to commit themselves to their eternal crusade, much like their fellow Space Marines of the Black Templar Chapter. Their Fortress Monastery is based on the Frozen Death World of Volstag, a world that is infested with a chameleon-like subterranean race known simply as the Varg. These xenos appeared upon the surface 1,000 years after the Grim Wardens settled upon this world, what caused them to surface now is unknown, but they have continued to plague the chapter at every turn. The Chapter use these xenos as part of a trial for recruiting the local human populace.
