The game began shortly after 4 p.m. with Greg Maddux pitching for Atlanta and Masato Yoshii starting for the Mets. There would be many rain delays of pure length. Fans even had a "14th inning stretch." But in the bottom of the 15th, 3rd baseman Robin Ventura hit a game-winning grand slam. But it was a "Grand Single" since he only went no farther than first (he got mobbed by his team). However, the Braves would get revenge as Kenny Rogers would allow the Braves a pennant-winning walk. But local villain John Rocker would disrespect the people that normally take the 7 train. Fans hoped for a repeat in the 2000 playoffs. But St. Louis would eliminate Atlanta. This gave the Mets an easier challenge for the pennant (which they eventually won). After a dormant time, the Mets rejuvenated in 2006. In a mid-July series in Atlanta, they swept the now-weak Braves for the first time since 1985.
