  • Glyptodonts were basically giant armadillos, but their armor was solid, not in bands, as in modern species. They evolved in South America, and were some of the few South American species that moved to North America during the Great Panama Interchange. Unlike their smaller cousins, all of the glyptodonts died out during the Pleistocene Epoch.
