  • The Customs Service was the immigration and customs agency of the New Republic. Created in 14 ABY, the Customs Service was tasked with migration of beings from the Outer Rim Territories into the Colonies and Core Worlds. It was considered to be corrupt by the people who were not let into New Republic space, but it was said to have been generally effective at keeping criminals out of the Republic. Customs employed around 700,000 personnel galaxy wide, and often worked with the New Republic Security Service. Customs played a small role in the conflicts that the Republic took part in, but many officers of the agency were killed during times of war. Though the personnel were paid substantial amounts of credits by the government, the service's budget grew lower over time. Much of it went to the New Republic Corrections Service, which quickly became a rival for funding. Agents of the Customs Service were given low quality training, and it mainly relied on numbers. The New Republic Drug Control Agency criticized it for not helping them stop the flow of illegal drugs. After the Yuuzhan Vong War and the creation of the Galactic Federation of Free Alliances, it was replaced by the Galactic Alliance Migration Service.
