The Esquire "appearance" was not critical coverage, but rather a printing of a "napkin fiction" that Esquire solicited from 250 random authors. * Comment. Not all of those sources were reliable. Many of them were merchant sources and I want to note that the Barker Award is not a notable award. It's a $250 award for "the best paper presented at the MPSA Annual National Conference". [1] 99.9% of awards given (especially those during college) are not notable. I'm also a little leery of the radio spot. I'll listen to see how much mention is given to the book, but I've rarely seen a radio spot have enough reliability and go in-depth enough to show notability.Tokyogirl79 (talk) 06:35, 18 June 2012 (UTC)
* I also want to note that the Esquire link is just a link to his story, which cannot show notability. * None of the accolades or awards on the article are notable. One is given out by Newcity and while the magazine appears to be notable, being one of the top 50 for that year for that magazine isn't something so overwhelmingly notable that it would keep the article by itself. The &Now Award is a small award given out by a private college and the link given was to a product purchase link. It doesn't show notability for either the award or for Blackstone. The Newcity link might help show notability along with other links, but since the other one is just a radio mention I'm not seeing a lot of notability so far. * Delete. I went through the sources on the article and I don't see where Blackstone has received any true depth of coverage. Of the sources given, most of them were product listings. I had one link to an alumni website that listed him because he'd had something published. That in itself does not extend notability. It might at best establish that Blackstone had attended the college and the college viewed him as successful, but that in itself is not notability per Wikipedia guidelines. I also had to remove a source that linked to a Wikipedia article that did not mention him or even show any notability for achieving the status of managing editor for Bookslut. Many people edit for notable publications or people, but that in itself is not notability and the notability of the people he edits for does not transfer to him. Finally, the awards and accolades are not considered notable. I removed the mention of the award he'd received in college, the $250 award for best presentation at the MPSA Conference. It's just not notable per Wikipedia standards. This isn't slinging the award, just stating that very, very few awards are considered notable enough per Wikipedia to bestow notability in any fashion. The only usable sources were a radio mention and a Newcity article, and those aren't enough to give notability. A search brought up many incidental and trivial mentions of him in relation to his wife, mentions in non-notable and unusable blog links, and mentions of him signing books or being scheduled to show up somewhere, but nothing Wikipedia would consider a reliable source that shows notability. He's certainly more accomplished than most, but the rules for notability for people are incredibly strict and Blackstone just doesn't pass them.Tokyogirl79 (talk) 07:11, 18 June 2012 (UTC)
