  • The Blue Wizards (or the Ithryn Luin) were two notoriously mysterious characters of Middle-earth; so-named because they both wore sea-blue robes. These Istari were only hinted at in The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings, where Gandalf and Saruman, respectively, mention that there are five Wizards. However, other writings of Tolkien have more to say: In Tolkien's Of the Rings of Power and the Third Age we are told that aside from Curunír (Saruman), Mithrandir (Gandalf), and Radagast, there were "others of the Istari who went into the east of Middle-earth, and do not come into these tales." Tolkien also writes in Unfinished Tales that the two Wizards were sent to the East. Their names in Valinor were Alatar and Pallando, and they were Maiar of the Vala Oromë.

  • Blue Wizards, also known as Elder Wizards, can be found in Alpine Ridge, High Caves and Wizard Peak in Spyro the Dragon. Blue Wizards are closely related to the Weather Wizards, only they are much older and larger and can be distinguished by their long white beards and blue clothing.

There may be some rivalry in the wizard community. In Alpine Ridge, the Blue Wizard and Green Druids will fight one another, however, they will not kill each other. The Druid will raise himself up on a rock when the Blue Wizard shoots his magic bolts at him, and the Druid will occasionally use his powers of earth manipulation to knock the Blue Wizard over. In High Caves, the Blue Wizards and the Tornado Wizards will duke it out, each one firing their own type of projectile at the other. The Tornado Wizards' tornadoes seemed to affect the Blue Wizards more than the Blue Wizards' magic bolts do on the Tornado Wizards.
