| abstract | - Muppets, Inc. produced ten 10-second ads for C & P Telephone Co. of VA in 1964 and 1965; the ads aired from 1965 to 1968. The ads for Virginia markets starred Mack and Suzy , who made a similar set of ads for Southern Bell Telephone in 1966. In one ad ("Blow Up"), Suzy asks Mack if he checks the telephone directory, to which he replies, "No!" Suzy tells him that people who don't use the telephone directory sometimes blow up... Mack blows up on cue. In another ("Monster"), Mack makes a long-distance call without dialing 1 first. Big V appears and swallows Mack whole. Suzy shrugs, "Strange things happen to people who don't dial 1." Mack is rewarded in "Nice Things Happen", when he tells Suzy that he did use the telephone directory. A heart appears, and flower petals fall from the sky. "Nice things happen to people who use the directory," Suzy nods.
