  • Samuel Tonkin (1868 - 6 March 1939) was a solicitor and local politician active in the Marylebone area. Born in Devon, Tonkin moved to London, and was admitted as a solicitor in 1900 having been awarded the John Mackrell Prize. The Prize is awarded every year to the student attaining the highest overall score in the Legal Practice Course. In 1917 he became a member of St. Marylebone Borough Council, serving as Mayor in 1925-26 and was an alderman at the time of his death.
