Synopsis
  • Dani Sharpe, Lexcorp exec, is running a test of the VB-55 nuclear missile for a US Army Colonel. Although the test is supposed to be at a fraction of the bomb's power the explosion is massive, but Dani assures the Colonel that Firestorm, who is working with her, will contain the blast. He does so with difficulty, and with the guidance of his merged partner, whom Dani assumes is Professor Martin Stein. In the wreckage Firestorm discovers a coffin-like object containing a burnt body, and takes a skin sample. Dani and her associates assure him that they have no knowledge of the body, but there is strange micro-circuitry within its container that might have enhanced the explosion. Dani quietly reveals that she knows Firestorm's true identity as Jason Rusch. Later Firestorm unmerges, to reveal that Jason's partner is not Professor Stein, but Senator Lorraine "Firehawk" Reilly. Professor Martin Stein has gone missing, and Lorraine has merged with Firestorm to help him find his mentor. However something went wrong with the Firestorm Matrix, and now they are stuck together. The two are attacked by goons in body armor who appear from thin air, and Jason is quickly subdued and thrown in the back of a truck, which speeds away. Lorraine becomes Firehawk to fight, while Jason desperately tries to tell his captors that due to the error in the Firestorm Matrix he and Firehawk cannot be more than a mile apart. As his warning is ignored Firehawk collapses, while Jason explodes violently.
