He slipped a bit in his next start, falling to 34th at Morristown before ending his season with a solid 13th place run at Langhorne. Applegate's other two races came in 1952 and came out strong. He started 14th and drove a solid race at Morristown, falling just a few laps down and winding up with a career-best 7th place run. Unfortunately, Applegate couldn't end his career quite so well, finishing 35th at Langhorne after a crash.
