| abstract | - Virgil Stockton is a former NASCAR driver from Melvindale, MI. He competed in five Nextel Cup Series events in his career, earning one top-ten. Stockton's debut came in 1953, when he competed at Hillsboro. Starting positions in the field of nineteen are unknown, but Stockton drove a respectable race and wound up finishing 15th. Stockton's final four races came in the 1954 season, and the results proved to be a mixed bag for the driver. Stockton failed to be running at the finish of a single race, but still managed to finish no worse than 19th at Weaverville. His best run was his last, driving his way to a career-best 10th place run at Grand Rapids.
