After being inspired by Mankind and Undertaker Hell in a Cell match’s King of the Ring 98 decided to become a wrestler. On July 6th, 2011, Van Owen signed his first professional contract with New Edge Wrestling. On July 18th, he made his debut in a 12 man battle royal, he was the 7th person eliminated in a contest which was eventually won by Xtreme Demon. He would suffer subsequent losses to Chad Hollister and Gaf but would pick up his first win against Jackson Stone.

He was given a number 1 contenders match for the TV title against Donnie Haywood and L.A. Kief but lost out to Kief. On September 5th, 2011, Van Owen managed his second win against Custard Creamer and Donnie Haywood. During this match Van Owen delivered a vicious piledriver on Haywood, which put him out of action indefinitely.
