Synopsis
  • Tom Kirk and Beth Granger investigate the scene of another gruesome murder in Gotham Village. They compare it to two other recent murders, one involving a man who was pulled apart, and the other involving the decapitation of a sexual predator named Ray Wheeler. Tom wonders if Simon Dark had anything to do with Wheeler's death. In the grottoes beneath Sacred Martyr Church, Simon Dark experiments with altering his facial features. Rachel Dodds appears and asks him about Ray Wheeler. He confides to her that he did in fact kill him. Tom arrives and asks him about Wheeler's death. He scolds Simon for his actions and tells him that he cannot simply go around decapitating people. Simon projects a psychic flash onto Tom, showing him how loathsome an individual Wheeler truly was. At Webb's Market, Gus makes a recording of all his work that led to the creation of Simon Dark. He feels guilty over how things turned out for Simon and comments that he was trying to keep his work away from the Cult that had been trying to appropriate it. Simon appears and Gus apologizes for the hardships that he has caused Simon. Simon tells him that he needs his help. Elsewhere, a masked serial killer who appears to be an even more distorted version of Simon Dark has an encounter with a homeless man. The homeless man attacks him, but the killer impales him with a tire iron. Tom Kirk arrives and fires several shots at the killer, but they don't seem to phase him. They swap punches with one another and the killer notices the scar stitching on Tom's right wrist. He says, "I. Am. Close."
