He was a long-time member of the German National Team during the 1920s and 1930s, appearing at nine major tournaments between 1927 and 1935. Romer initially played for SC Charlottenburg and later for Berliner Schlittschuhclub, whom he captained. After retiring as an active player, he became an official. Romer is a member of the German Ice Hockey Hall of Fame.
