  • Fuel pods were supplemental fuel tanks connected to the sublight drive of an X-wing starfighter. This gave the pilot an extended mission time plus enough fuel to escape any gravity wells and a safe return to hyperspace. Around 7 ABY, Rogue Squadron attached fuel pods to their ships before the Second Battle of Borleias. Equipped with a quick release system to jettison the empty pods, they provided the X-Wings with an additional forty five minutes of flight time. Corellian pilot Lieutenant Corran Horn used his malfunctioning fuel pod as an impromptu missile and destroyed a pursuing TIE starfighter.

They serve as mobile, unarmored docking stations for Swarmers and Advanced Swarmers. The limited fuel supply of the Swarmer means that they must frequently dock with a Fuel Pod in order to remain active on the battlefield. If these pods are not on station, the Swarmers will run dry and be left stranded in the void of space.
