This has been proved by what I like to call a demon cat bush. Basically, a wild cat (Who's actually the idea for Falconkit) ran into a bush one day. I walked up to bush and started talking. But when I said something like, "I won't hurt you," I heard a high pitched voice repeat me. So I started freaking out, and everything I said was mocked. Eventually, I ran, and curled up in a corner rocking back and forth. It was the creepiest thing ever. So yeah, don't start typing "CATS CAN'T TALK BLARGH" in the comments.) * End Spoilers Grassstorm and Blazestripe dashed through the camp entrance in a blur, tears in Grassstorm's usually bright green eyes. "Where are Birdpaw and Firepaw?" Oakstar demanded. Firepaw was his kit, after all. "Too strong, couldn't chase..." Blazestripe panted. "Who?" Volecloud asked. Grassstorm panted, then gave a screech before she and Blazestripe collasped. "Twolegs!" "What?" Volecloud said in disbelief as Leaffang gave a yowl of pain. Not because her kits were coming, but because Birdpaw was her kit. Volecloud started muttering: "No. No, this can't be true. Everything Blazestripe and the other prophecy cats have done for the past generations of cats... all gone. That age old prophecy..." she suddenly stopped, and her eyes changed from green to yellow like all of her family whenever they recited the prophecy. "Leopards, lions, stone, dirt, mountains, the sun, the moon, crystals, night, day, every great cat there ever was, will bow to a flame and a bird, and the great cats will battle along side an oak, a cloud, a falcon, and an odd color like no other to decide the fate of all cats." Her eyes fading back to green, she walked to the back of the medcine cat den. She looked at each of the symbols. "Leopardheart... Lionclaw... Dirtpelt... Icemoon... Stonepelt... Shimmerfur... me... Leaffang... Birdpaw and Firepaw. I was so sure... no. There's gotta be a loophole, maybe another flame and bird." But deep in her heart, she knew Birdpaw and Firepaw were the flame and bird. Birdpaw and Firepaw plopped down on to the faded red ground. It was so soft... I could just sleep right here, thought Birdpaw. No... I must get out... but I'm sleepy... so sleepy... she fell over, and Firepaw fell next to her. As she drifted off asleep, she was faintly aware of a third cat with them. Birdpaw woke up, but instead of early-bird Runningpaw waking her long before the dawn patrol goes out and the apprentice den roof, she saw white and a silvery she-cat gazing down at her. "Hello, I'm Luna. Welcome to my house!" the cat said cheerfully. Birdpaw opened her jaws to screech, but Luna shoved her tail into her mouth. "Don't worry, you just need to get used to here." The events of yesterday hit Birdpaw like a enemy blow as Firepaw stirred. "Ah, I see your friend is waking. Hello!" "Wha-? Where- oh, right. But-" Firepaw stuttered. "I'm Luna. And I know what your thinking, and there's no way out. You'll stay here until my housefolk seperate you and your friend across the neighborhood, and you may unfortanutely be unable to have kits, and any kits before then will also be seperated. Have a nice stay!" she mewed sarcastically then burst into tears as her eyes filled with memories of lost kits. Birdpaw whispered to Firepaw, "Well, that was a warm welcome." A twoleg walked over holding a round metal object. "Run!" Birdpaw quickly yowled before she and Firepaw ran under... something. "What are you doing under the couch? It just food, jeez." Luna said, crouching down to eat small brown pellets as a twoleg reached a pink paw down. "Luna, watch out!" Birdpaw cried out. She closed her eyes, waiting for Luna to screech in pain, but she didn't. Birdpaw opened one eye to see the twoleg gently stroking Luna. "Kittypets. I'll never understand them," she heard Firepaw whisper. "Me neither." Birdpaw whispered back. Eventually, they got hungry and thirsty, so they ate some of the dry pellets and Luna showed them to the water. It tastes so wierd! Birdpaw thought. And so the next few days went on like this, Birdpaw and Firepaw hiding under the couch until they got hungry or thirsty or needed to make dirt in what Luna called the litterbox. "Good news, guys!" Luna said one day. "Twolegs just said nobody's probably gonna take you until the white goes away!" "White? And you speak Twoleg?" Birdpaw inquired. "Oh, right, you haven't seen the window! And no, but I understand some of what they say. Now come on!" Carefully, all senses alert, Birdpaw and Firepaw crept out from under the couch and followed Luna through some tall tunnels made of the same brown stuff some of the couch was made of. "Welcome," Luna mewed. "To the Window Room." "A way out!" Birdpaw screeched and ran towards some blurry air Luna screeched back. "No!" Birdpaw halted, but Firepaw was stopped by some invisible force with a sickening crack. "Firepaw! Firepaw!" Birdpaw blurted out. Is he... dead? "He'll be okay," Luna said as she padded up to inspect the blurry air, which now had a strange white thing in it. "Looks like you cracked the window. Twolegs are gonna be mad. Here-" she grabbed a thin thing made of another thing the couch was also partly made of. She pulled it over. "There. You know, if we found something other than... you know, I never got your names." "Birdpaw. And this Firepaw." Birdpaw mewed. The red tom began to stir behind her as she said his name. Luna yowled and then ran around the room. "Those... are... wild... cat... names..." she yelped when she was closest to them in her circle. "So? Whadya expect? We came from outside." Birdpaw mewed. "Uh... I don't know." There was a moment of awkward silence. Finally, Luna broke it. "Well as I was saying..." she began. "If we found something other than Firepaw, we might be able to break the window and escape. We can hide over by that tree-" she started flicking her tail over to objects. "Then that bush... past the fence... hope the small band of rouges let us pass by, and we'll free. Easy, but we'll need to find something besides Firepaw that is harder than the glass." Firepaw woke up half away through the last sentence. He nodded and said, "I understand completely." Of course, he asked Birdpaw about it that night when Luna was asleep. "Okay, good. Now, if you follow me, I'll show you where I sleep." She padded over across the red ground to this new, soft, brown ground with a large bright yellow den like thing. "There's room for three, don't worry." She walked over and curled up on a bright yellow soft thing, and the apprentices (or former apprentices) did the same. Luna fell asleep and Birdpaw talked to Firepaw. "Kittypet life is so boring," Birdpaw whispered. "Agreed," Firepaw whispered back. Their tail intwined. "Goodnight." "Goodnight." "Sorry, Oakstar. We searched all of Twolegplace and no cat has spotted either one of them. I think the twolegs... hunted them." Oakstar began to weep at Blazestripe's news. "No... no." "I'm sorry. Remember, Birdpaw was my niece." "We just gotta believe," he choked out. "We just gotta believe." "There's nothing left to believe in, Oakstar." Blazestripe meowed grimly. "If I ever get my paws on the twolegs who did this..." The days truged on, and nothing to break the window was found. Eventually, there was some excitement. Birdpaw was going to have kits. "Birdpaw..." Luna asked one day. "Yes?" Birdpaw replied. "You seem... bigger than usual." "I'm growing." "No... around the stomach." Birdpaw looked back. It was true. "But- I don't eat much. Well, I have been eating more lately..." Luna smiled. "Hehehe..." "Wait... no! No no no! There's some other explanation, I swear!" Luna leaned forward. "You-" "No!" Birdpaw cut her off. "You love him, don't you?" "..." "Don't you?" "... yes..." Birdpaw replied honestly. Luna gave a quick purr of amusement and said: "We'll have to hide it and it or them. Don't let the twolegs see or goodbye babies." Birdpaw nodded. "As soon their ready to move long distances by themselves, we gotta leave. We gotta look day and night." Birdpaw nodded again. After explaining to Firepaw the situation, they began looking 24/7. A couple moons later, they found it, a long cold gray stick with a large red part. The twolegs came out of a monster with it while their litterbox (that doubles as a water bowl, but the water tastes funny) wasn't making it's usual noise after they make dirt. Luna found if she held the red end and ramed the gray part into the window, she could crack it. The next day, the kits were born as if on cue. With some help from Luna and Firepaw, all four started suckling. "Mind if I name one?" Luna asked. "Of course not." Birdpaw replied. "How about Cloud?" she said as she pointed to a white fluffy one. Birdpaw thought about it. It's not a wild cat name, not at all. But something about it feels right... "Sure." Birdpaw replied. Firepaw nodded. "Actually, where did these come from? The colors, I mean?" "If I remember correctly, the brown one is from Oakstar, Firepaw's father, the black and white is from Falconwind, my mother, and I believe my grandmother, Snowfoot was white like Cloud. And this one... er... er... hm, I'm not sure I know." "Oh, it's purple, a twoleg color. It's a mix of blue like you, Birdpaw, and red like you, Firepaw." They both nodded. "And if you don't mind, how about Oak, Falcon, and Purple?" "Hm... add kit to ends of the names." "Oakkit, Falconkit, Purplekit, and Cloudkit?" "...well, except Cloud maybe." "Oakkit, Flaconkit, Purplekit, and Cloud it is!" And thus, the prophecy continued. The cats broke out into the yard, and for the first time in a while and ever for Luna and the kits. they were free. Purplekit had grown to be the smartest cat any of them had ever known. Falconkit and Cloud did dumb things, but accroding to Purplekit, Cloud was foolish, but Falconkit did things out of bravery. Oakkit also grew very persuasive, and although no-one believed him Cloud swore he could speak and understand Twoleg. Then, again, he was a idoit. All the kits were 2 moons old. A twoleg yelped as they ran under the bush, and started running for them. One by one, the cats scattered except for Oakkit. Don't panic, Oakkit. It's just like a game of race tag. Switch paths a few times and double-back a few times. Oakkit ran this way and that before jumping over the fence. The twoleg stopped aburptly at the fence, and ran into the house. Luna spoke faster than Oakkit could hear. "WeneedtorunpasttherougesbecauseweprobablypickedabadtimebutCloudpokedhisheadoutandweneededtorunstarightawayanywayweprobablywokeupterougesandthey'llbegrumpyso RUN!" All the cats caught atleast the last word and ran. They were nearly there, and Oakkit could see giant lumps on the horoizon. As moon reached it's peak, the area around them was bathed in moonlight, but there was no time for the kits to take in all the new scents and sights of the great outdoors yet. More coming soon!
