| abstract | - Thomas "Tom" Sherman was an agent for the Immigration and Customs Enforcement who was patrolling the night that all the agencies except for NCIS were holding a poker night at SECNAV Phillip Davenport's house. Unfortunately, Mossad agent Michael Rivkin was there and attacked Sherman, accidentally killing him before fleeing and as a result, an investigation was launched into Sherman's death with the NCIS Major Case Response Team led by NCIS Special Agent Leroy Jethro Gibbs taking the lead. NCIS Special Agent Anthony DiNozzo, the Senior Agent of the team later discovered that Rivkin had been responsible for the deaths of both Agent Sherman and terrorist leader Abin Tabal and confronted Rivkin at NCIS/Mossad Liaison Officer, Ziva David's apartment where DiNozzo attempted to arrest Rivkin for both crimes despite DiNozzo not knowing at the time that Sherman's death had been accidental. The arrest attempt failed as almost instantly, DiNozzo and Rivkin got into a massive fight that left both men injured and left in Ziva's front room in ruins with the fight ending when DiNozzo was forced to shoot Rivkin in self-defense and despite Ziva's best efforts at performing CPR, Rivkin later died from his injuries with his death causing a major international incident. In the Season 6 finale episode, Aliyah (episode), Mossad Director Eli David confirmed to NCIS Director Leon Vance that Sherman's death had indeed been an accident.
