Spears made three more starts during the 1955 season, though it was a rather tough year for the driver. Two early season DNFs hurt Spears' chances, leaving him 23rd at North Wilkesboro and 24th at Old Bridge. Not even a return to Darlington could help Spears, as he fell many laps down and out of contention en route to a 31st place finish. Spears' made his final three starts during the 1956 season. It was a tough opening once again to the season for Spears, who only completed thirty-three laps at Norfolk before finishing in 22nd. But Spears salvaged the end to his career with a pair of respectable races, showing 20th at New Oxford and 11th at Old Bridge.
