abstract | - The Deputy Leadership Election for the APR was held on the same day as the leadership contest, it followed the resignation of Janice Parker who went on to contest and win the leadership contest. The election was contested by three MPs, James Thorpe, Alison Grey and Albert Frauke. Frauke had been only recently elected in 3889, while Thorpe and Grey had been in Parliament since 3885 and have become well known amongst the parliamentary grouping. Thorpe was elected on the first round with over 50% of the vote, many suspect Thorpe's closeness to Parker made many MPs presume they would make a great senior leadership team, and his popularity among MPs also boosted his chances.
