  • The Battle of Grasok Run was a three-way engagement between the United Nations Space Command, New Colonial Alliance, and a coalition of various Insurrectionist groups. The battle was the culmination of the conflict between the New Colonial Alliance and the so-called 'free' Insurrectionist groups, the latter of whom had formed a clandestine alliance with the UNSC, with the hopes of keeping those illegal settlements on the frontier independent.

abstract
  • The Battle of Grasok Run was a three-way engagement between the United Nations Space Command, New Colonial Alliance, and a coalition of various Insurrectionist groups. The battle was the culmination of the conflict between the New Colonial Alliance and the so-called 'free' Insurrectionist groups, the latter of whom had formed a clandestine alliance with the UNSC, with the hopes of keeping those illegal settlements on the frontier independent. On May 2nd, Lieutenant Colonel Urban Holland contacted the commander of the Insurrectionists, Colonel Robert Nichols, and laid out a plan to destroy the NCA on this planet. The plan was to lure the majority of the Alliance's forces into a trap, using the Insurrectionist forces as bait, after which the UNSC would destroy the NCA, hopefully dealing them a crippling blow. Nichols accepted the plan, and mobilized the entirety of his forces, numbering about 1,000 fighters, and brought them to Grasok Run, a river that marked the border that settlers were supposed to not go beyond, making it conspicuous as possible, so as to arouse the suspicion of the NCA. The ploy worked, and on May 8th, Ilsa Zane, despite the objections of Colonel Karl Afeld, ordered the NCA forces to Grasok Run, hoping to completely eliminate the Insurrectionists. In a savage three day battle, both sides took heavy casualties, and finally on May 11th, UNSC forces arrived, completely wiping out the already weakened NCA forces, proceeding to renege on their alliance, and destroying what was left of the Insurrectionist force as well. With no more Insurrectionist resistance, the UNSC brought the independent settlements under the control of the planetary government.
