  • The 1991 Peach Bowl served as the site of the 1990-91 NCAA football season's championship game, pitting the No. 1 South Carolina Gamecocks against the No. 2 Aroostook Golden Eagles. The game was held at the Georgia Dome in Atlanta, GA on January 8th, 1991, as agreed upon by the Elite Series Bowl conference in 1987 in Boston. The game was the most lopsided blowout in championship game history - it was the first shutout since 1964 and South Carolina remains the only team to score 60 points as well as score eight touchdowns. The final score, 60-0, is painted on the walls of South Carolina's home football stadium to commemorate the school's only national championship.
