  • Lyla Addison was the scion of an extremely rich and influential New York family, who was found dead in the trunk of her car by police officers, in a case which initiated the events of "Law & Murder". The members of the jury in the trial of Otis Williams for her murder included Joe McUsic, who had pertinent information confirming Williams' innocence, and bribed his way onto the jury to try to prevent a miscarriage of justice. McUsic could not simply come forward with the evidence because his brother, Eddie was entangled in the events.

McUsic could not simply come forward with the evidence because his brother, Eddie was entangled in the events. Evidence would show that Lyla was, in point of fact, killed by her own brother, Stephen, in an accidental shooting when their car hit a pothole. He also murdered McUsic in his attempt to cover up his crime. The comments of D.A. Lou Karnacki suggest that the Addison family was exerting all its power to hush up the truth. Eddie describes the Addisons as "a pair of rich, spoiled coke fiends", and the content of the episode would seem to support him.
