  • Fainting

  • When the Super Friends were rescuing the U.S.S. Narwhal, Wonder Woman passes out, due to exposure to the crushing force of a white dwarf's gravity field, which was focused on her and Superman by the Raven, operating from within his spaceship. The painfully crushing gravity was enough to make Wonder Woman temporarily black out. Superman once fainted when Marvin White showed him Paw Martingale's sky stone, which was actually a chunk of Green Kryptonite.
  • Fainting or syncope is a physiological response to a temporary loss of blood pressure to the brain which causes momentary delirium, loss of muscular rigidity and a short period of unconsciousness. The affected person falls forward, which restores blood pressure to the head and usually results in a rapid recovery from the symptoms. It should be very temporary in nature as opposed to similar collapses caused by other causes, such as drugs, concussion or narcolepsy. In 97 Seconds, Thomas Stark faints while fixed upright in his wheelchair and, as a result, does not regain consciousness.
  • During his brief visit to the mirror universe in 2267, Dr. Leonard McCoy was appalled by what he found, calling his sickbay a "Chamber of Horrors", further describing that his counterpart's assistants "were betting on the tolerance of an injured man," specifically, "how long it would take him to pass out from the pain." (TOS: "Mirror, Mirror" ) In 2268, half the crew of the USS Enterprise fainted due to the effects of the space amoeba. (TOS: "The Immunity Syndrome" ) In 2269, Lieutenant Mira Romaine fainted while under the influence of the Zetarians. (TOS: "The Lights of Zetar" )

  • Fainting is a game mechanic featured in Grabbed By The Ghoulies that occurs after Cooper loses all of his Energy. When this happens, Cooper will suddenly lose consciousness as the screen slightly blurs and a disappointed tune plays in the background. There are different animations based on the manner he is defeated. If he faints while standing up, he will simply stumble slightly and fall to the ground. If he faints from being knocked-down, he'll lie with his back faced down and briefly reaches his right hand out before losing consciousness. If he faints due The Reaper's touch or the Mummy's curse, Cooper will grab his neck as he hopelessly gasps and collapse, turning gray.

It should be very temporary in nature as opposed to similar collapses caused by other causes, such as drugs, concussion or narcolepsy. Fainting in and of itself is not usually a sign of a serious disorder. However, if it is frequent, it is usually a symptom of chronically low blood pressure. In most cases, it is caused by approaching exhaustion from heat or fatigue. In some cases, it can be brought about by standing too quickly. Fainting rarely results in trauma as the body protects itself from serious injury by putting the hands in front of the body as it falls as an autonomic response. In 97 Seconds, Thomas Stark faints while fixed upright in his wheelchair and, as a result, does not regain consciousness.

In 2365, after Worf had fainted on the bridge of the USS Enterprise-D, Doctor Katherine Pulaski described the cause of fainting as suffering a dramatic drop in blood pressure, blood glucose level dropping, and having deficient blood flow resulting from circulatory failure. Despite his protests, she checked the computer and diagnosed him with rop'ngor. (TNG: "Up The Long Ladder" ) In 2366, the alien posing as Bolian Mitena Haro claimed to have fainted while studying before being abducted. (TNG: "Allegiance" ) In 2370, Quark fainted upon learning that Pel was a female. (DS9: "Rules of Acquisition") Later that year, Admiral Erik Pressman joked that William T. Riker looked as though he were about to faint when they came face to face. (TNG: "The Pegasus" ) In 2372, Rom credited fainting with having saved his life, as it necessitated his visit to Deep Space 9's infirmary. (DS9: "Bar Association") In 2377, Tom Paris thanked Seven of Nine and Icheb for assisting a pregnant B'Elanna Torres when she fainted. (VOY: "Lineage")
