  • The Pitfall is an item from the Animal Crossing series appearing in Super Smash Flash 2. When thrown, the Pitfall bounces off walls until it touches the ground, which it then embeds itself into with no trace, but will disappear with a puff of smoke after a few minutes. If an opponent to walk onto its location, it will get driven into the ground and will take some damage, burying him and leaving him motionless and vulnerable to attacks if they are on a hard platform. If the opponent was on a pass-through platform, it will go clean through it and continue downwards. This also happens when the item is thrown at a grounded opponent. If it thrown in midair and hits an airborne opponent, it will get meteor smashed.

In the Animal Crossing series, it was a somewhat rare item that, when buried, would cause any character except special visitors who walked over it to fall down into a small pit. This item was one of the rarer items in the series and was most commonly found randomly buried. In Animal Crossing: Wild World and City Folk, it was named Pitfall Seed, and was less rare.

Since creatures will not jump the same pit twice in a row, you must move to another nearby hot-spot to build another pitfall and try again. The pit-fall trap will collapse after a certain amount of time. You collect furs when emptying the trap, which can be made into Hunter gear in the Varrock Fancy Clothes Store. You can buy them from the Grand Exchange for a fine price, too. The furs may be tattered or "perfect"; tattered furs are only suitable for bodies or legs, but perfect furs are suitable for headpieces, bodies and legs. One receives perfect fur approximately one-fourth of the time. It takes three furs plus coins to make a set. Alternatively, you may sell the furs in Ardougne or on the Grand Exchange to other players. There is a glitch in which you can collapse a trap, but not kill the creature. This is done by jumping the pit at the same time when the creature is walking over the pit; it will not work if the creature is jumping. This will cause the creature to fall in, turn to face your character and then "spawn" outside the trap with the trap looking collapsed. You will not kill the creature and therefore receive no materials or drops. This glitch has yet to be fixed.
