While the pack is usually connected to an operator's helmet, it can be rerouted to a detachable radio on the back. The radio also transmits data signals and Morse Code, with the results being decoded in the radio pack and directed through the Marine's HUD. The M101 is a small pack, with it quite capable of being worn along with a rucksack, albeit small and is incredibly rugged, with it being resistant to most assault rifle ammo and plasma fire.
