  • Weapon proficiency is a passive attribute in Borderlands that a character can build for each weapon type. Characters gain proficiency for the equipped weapon whenever experience is gained from a kill. This applies even if the kill is scored by an allied unit, including a team mate, a Bloodwing or a Scorpio Turret. Kills scored from standard melee attacks and grenades also count towards the class of the weapon currently wielded.
  • This article is about the feat. For rules governing proficient use of weapons, see weapon proficiency. Prerequisites: none Benefit: You gain proficiency with a single weapon of your choice. • User with this ability need only to pick up a weapon before they instantly become proficient in it. The first time they pick up a sword, they can spar with masters, the first time they use a bow, they can hit bulls-eyes. Even alien, magical, or other weaponry that they should not understand comes naturally to them.
  • Weapon Proficiency determines how well a creature can handle certain types of weapon, which may add penalties or bonuses, depending on the skill level. Most non-warrior group classes may become proficient (1 slot) in their weapon array, paladins & rangers can specialize (2 slots), only fighters are able to achieve grand master (5 slots). Different classes also have various fighting style investments.
