  • In addition to casting the actors perhaps her greatest legacy to the programme is in recognising Tony Warren's writing skills after auditioning and interviewing him as an actor for Granada Television in the late 1950s. Instead of helping him pursue his acting dreams she instead sent him in the direction of drama executive producer Harry Elton who commissioned him to write scripts for the series Biggles. Disliking his task intensely, Warren begged for the chance to write something about the North of England and Coronation Street was the result.
