| abstract | - Throughout the 2250s and 2260s, the Chandley was assigned to patrol along the Klingon and Romulan Neutral Zones. The Chandley was rarely involved in any lengthy engagements, and spent most of her time engaging pirate vessels. Engineering Lieutenant J'lenn was a member of the crew during this period. (SCE eBook: Foundations, Book One) By the late 2270s, the Chandley had been retired from Starfleet service, and given over to the Kelvans of New Kelva, for use as a testbed for an experimental warp drive. During its initial tests in 2280, the Chandley's engines failed to disengage properly, propelling the ship into unexplored space, and into a contentious first contact with a race called the Lutralians. Fortunately, initial tensions were diffused, due in large part to Lieutenant Talev zh'Thren, and the Chandley was able to return to Federation space and complete its tests.
