Some versions of the post-mortem Jor-El have been depicted merely as recordings that are incapable of interaction (the Lois & Clark episode "Big Girls Don't Fly"). Such examples lack artificial intelligence programming and exist only as a holographic construct with simpler recording technology. The Jor-El A.I. serves primarily as a tool to educate Kal-El on Krypton's and Earth's histories, but also serves as a mentor and refuge for Superman. In some versions, the Jor-El A.I. has the ability to affect the real world beyond a conversational capacity.
