- Nicholas Rowe portrayed the young Sherlock Holmes in the film Young Sherlock Holmes, when he was 18, and appears in the film Mr. Holmes, as an actor playing Holmes in a black-and-white matinee film. Nicholas is the son of a prominent Member of Parliament and a musician. He read Hispanic Studies at Bristol University. He first came to public attention with a role in the 1984 film about the English Public School system and its effect on the establishment Another Country, something about which he had first hand knowledge having been sent to Eton as a child. He then landed the role which shot him to youthful stardom in Steven Spielberg’s 1985 movie Young Sherlock Holmes. It was rumored that Rowe would reprise his role in Guy Ritchie's version which later turned out to be an April Fool's Day joke (despite being quite believable since Rowe's appearance in Ritchie's "Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels"). He did, however reprise the role of Holmes (alongside Alan Cox's Watson, again) in a few sketches for 2010 event Improvathon.
