Kirk's first five-year mission as commanding officer of the USS Enterprise, Kyle's primary billet was transporter chief (Star Trek: The Original Series, Star Trek: The Animated Series), though he was cross-trained as a helmsman (TOS: "The Immunity Syndrome") and a science officer. (TOS: "Who Mourns for Adonais") Kyle also served on Enterprise, after its refit, as chief maintenance officer for two years.
