Byers returned to the track in 1990, once again racing in the Coke 600 at Charlotte to start the year. After a disappointing 40th place finish, Byers dealt with another disappointing last place finish later in the year at Daytona. Despite the talents shown during the 1989 season, the poor results in 1990 left Byers rideless and he has never again raced in NASCAR.
