Despite his lack of a background, Hawk was incredibly lethal in almost any combat situation, leading some to believe that he was a former SPARTAN-III or Myrmidon. Although he was often tasked with a variety of assignments, his principle task was to operate as a bodyguard for Thomas Powell's daughter, Helen Powell. Hawk was always masked by a suit of old, jet-black SPI armor, allowing only his size and voice to give away his youth. He was generally seen bearing a variety of assault weapons, two sidearms, and several knives, along with various grenades and equipment hidden within his armor. He rarely spoke unless responding to the commands of Helen Powell, whom he always referred to as "mistress".
