The UGB are also Russia's secret police, operating under the aegis of being Russia's primary domestic intelligence and counterintelligence service. It is headquartered in Lubyanka Square, Moscow. The director is Rassily Romanov. The UGB the modern successor of the Soviet KGB. The UGB also controls the paramilitary Border Guard forces, which protect the borders and access into and out of Russia, as a bureaucratic counterpart to the MVD Interior Army. Both the Border Guard and Interior Army, and since the mid-2060s, the Red Army, have been engaged in the border conflict against Awakened "separatists" between Russia and Yakut.
