  • LittleBigPlanet is a platformer for the PS3, developed by Media Molecule and published by Sony in 2008. The primary focus of LBP is on user-generated content, though the surreal visual style and likeable Sackboy character also help the game stand out from competing platformers. Though it's proven to be rather polarizing on Board 8, the title received overwhelmingly positive reviews from the press, even managing to receive a rare "Perfect" score from Edge Magazine (a notoriously harsh gaming publication); and though sales were initially mediocre, LBP eventually went on to sell several million copies worldwide.

abstract
  • A sequel, LittleBigPlanet 2, was released on January 18, 2011. Several costumes are included exclusively in the limited Collector's Edition available only as a pre-order item. Among these are Gonzo in his Muppet Show-era purple tuxedo. The pieces of the costume are interchangeable with other parts, and the eyes glow in the dark. When the Gonzo costume was revealed in July 2010, it was announced that more Muppet costumes were planned to be released in the PlayStation store after the game's initial launch. The first costume pack released on December 7, 2011 features Kermit the Frog, Fozzie Bear, Dr. Bunsen Honeydew and Beaker. The second costume pack was released on December 14 and included the already-released Gonzo along with Miss Piggy, Statler and Waldorf. A third pack including Animal, Janice, Dr. Teeth, Floyd Pepper and Zoot were released on December 21. Media Molecule continued to release Muppet content in 2012 with the debut of a level pack on January 25th. The pack includes a Rowlf the Dog costume set, five new levels (and two challenges), a Muppet Theatre background, and dozens of stickers, materials and objects for user-generated content. Steve Whitmire, Eric Jacobson and Dave Goelz recorded material for Kermit, Fozzie, Piggy, Gonzo, Statler and Waldorf. Their audio is available as "gibberish" tracks that allow players to set the characters' voices to on-screen text "spoken" by manipulable characters in the game. __TOC__

It was developed by Media Molecule, and published by Sony Computer Entertainment Europe. The game revolves around the player's control of small avatars, known as Sackboys or Sackgirls, owing to their appearance, in a variety of platforming scenarios. Though the game features a set of pre-built levels for players to explore, of equal importance is the game's customizable nature, from altering the player's character and personal space, to building entirely new objects and levels, and then sharing and playing them online as part of the LittleBigPlanet community.

In the Spring 2009 Contest, LittleBigPlanet made its contest debut, where it was SFFed into the ground by PS3 killer app Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots. It returned for 2010's Game of the Decade contest, and once again, it failed to make it past Round One; Grand Theft Auto III defeated it in convincing fashion.
