Z jego okolic brał swój początek Mały Gelion, będący jednym z dwóch strumieni tworzących Gelion. Z drugiej strony znajdowały się źródła Celonu, należącego do zlewiska Sirionu. Nachdem im Ersten Zeitalter Beleriand im Meer unterging, blieb die Spitze des Himring oberhalb des Meeresspiegels. Als die Pässe währen der Dagor Bragollach (Schlacht des Jähen Feuers) von Morgoths Heeren eingenommen wurden, sammelten sich die Söhne Feanors auf dem Himring und hielten den Berg bis zur Niederlage in der Nirnaeth Arnoediad (Schlacht der ungezählten Tränen), als ihre Macht endgültig gebrochen wurde.
