Even when Moria was still inhabited by the Dwarves, on-and-off small groups of Deep Goblins seeped into abandoned mines and tunnels or raided remote Dwarven outposts. Later, when Malraugin was awakened, Deep Goblins invaded Moria and defeated Balin's colony.
