In the end, Declan's quad runs out of petrol, but Katie bitterly heads back on hers, leaving him to walk. Declan is shocked and horrified when Katie crashes the quad and falls - quad and all - down a disused mineshaft. Meanwhile, Laurel feels pushed out as Gabby is back from her trip and seems excited about seeing Bernice. Ashley warns Bernice about making false promises to Gabby. Ashley also tells Laurel that he won't let Bernice upset things with Gabby. Diane is determined to find out what is going on with Bernice. Soon afterwards, Bernice is silenced when Diane confronts her about having an affair and leaving her daughter behind, saying that she has ruined everything again Elsewhere, Brett asks about Paddy's canoe and Paddy can't resist mentioning a 'good' stretch of river to use it on, while Jimmy feels guilty as Charity disproves his misgivings about working together.
