Once lured in, the Beldam sews buttons over their eyes, kills them and consumes their souls and waits for her next victim to arrive. The character of the Beldam is near-identical in both the novel and film canons although the methods used to lure her victims in the Other World and her subsequent defeat is vastly different. Her unnerving, creepy and sadistic demeanour and mysterious background makes the Beldam a very disturbing villain even for the standards of animated horror films. She was voiced by , who is well known for her role in the TV series Desperate Housewives, which is also centered around motherhood.
