He was also a recipient of the Knight's Cross of the Iron Cross. The Knight's Cross of the Iron Cross was awarded to recognise extreme battlefield bravery or successful military leadership. Siegfried Rammelt was killed on 21 March 1944 during the Battle of Monte Cassino. He was posthumously promoted to Oberleutnant and was awarded the Knight's Cross of the Iron Cross on 11 June 1944.
