This was believed to have been a manipulation by the priestly caste to keep the power in their hands. The concept of 'worship' does not exist in Sikhism. Sikhs only bow down to Guru Granth Sahib as a sign of respect for the Shabad or Word of God and they only mediate on God's name (Naam Simran).
