TV Tokyo only aired twenty-five of the series' twenty-six episodes, with the finale having been intentionally made too violent and obscene for public broadcast. As such, it was only included in the DVD release of the series, although it has since been broadcast in other markets. The series has had some critical success coupled with respectable sales.

Degli animatori privi di scrupoli (fra cui un afro gemello di Lupin III) hanno poi chiesto al mangaka il permesso di mutare, di episodio in episodio, la serie originale in vari documentari su temi differenti (l'amore, lo sport, gli scontri fra cani e umani-robot e panda-robot-bombe che girano per la città).
