In the fourth quarter Yowarsky recovered a fumbled punt. Kentucky won the game 13-7 and Yowarsky ended up as the Sugar Bowl MVP. Kentucky's victory over the nation's #1 ranked team in the bowl game led to an officially recognized national championship. Yowarsky was selected with the third pick in the third round of the 1951 NFL Draft (29th overall) by the Washington Redskins. Yowarsky played in the National Football League for the Washington Redskins, Detroit Lions, New York Giants, and the San Francisco 49ers. Yowarsky played in the NFL for six seasons: 1951, and 1954-1958.
