  • Work on the AT-2 "Thunder" Blaster Pistol began shortly after the first ground battles during the Grey Worlds Conflict. The Army desired a variable-yield pistol that was compact, lightweight, and suited for encounters with a variety of hostile species. Added to this was the requirement of a degree of customization, allowing the pistol to accept silencers, laser sights, and flashlights, bringing its versatility in line with the Decuu BR7-A3 Vampire blaster rifle's wide range of capabilities. The AT-2 also adopted the rifle's strictly weapon appearance, a stark contrast to the tool-like AT-1, a point of much debate during the design process. While originally intended to replace the Decuu AT-1 in Military Intelligence and other covert divisions, the AT-2 was soon steadily replacing the old AT-1 pistol in the armed forces themselves. The pistol, codenamed "Thunder" during the developmental phase, is an intriguing blend of old and new. For a more intimidating appearance and ergonomic feel, the design team referenced many current weapons of the known galaxy. A molded hand grip provides comfort and accuracy, while the power pack nestled under the emitter can pop out easily to be recharged or replaced. The power level (stun / incapacitate / lethal) is changed simply by tapping the buttons on the back with one's thumb, and the weapon may be fired by squeezing the lightweight trigger. Power pack charge level and weapon setting are displayed on the side, by way of small lights. The weapon is a mere 20 centimeters long, and can be carried easily in a belt-mounted holster. It was updated in 17 ABY after the discovery of sig gas in the Pyran System, increasing its lethality immensely. This version was called the AT-2 Mark II, and quickly replaced the old Mark I. A modular version was developed in 18 ABY, called the AT-2M. Its grip, trigger and trigger-guard was modular, allowing non-human species like the Kartanin to use the blaster pistol. It was the standard sidearm of Kartanin exchange officers after 18 ABY.
