  • I know there have been some discussions on colour schemes and other thinks related to the new skin, so sorry for starting another! But I wanted to suggest a way forward. Why not change to Monaco now, perhaps the basic looking Monaco Smoke, and then start working out the changes needed to make it the perfect skin? That way, different aspects can be separated out to make it easier to code to an agreement. For example, what should the sidebar show? what sort of logo or banner would be best? and what overall colours would work? But you discuss that, with the bones of the new skin in place. What do you think? -- sannse (talk) 19:48, 8 May 2008 (UTC)

File:Rollback crown.svgearth(t) I've always been fine with that, to tell you the truth. The problem we've been having in getting community interest in this is 1) that most users seem to have already customized their skin (or chosen a non-default skin), and so aren't aware of the default, and 2) the Wiki software seems to cache what skin you use, even when you explicitly log out. This makes it very hard to actually get the feel of what a visitor to the site sees. All that said, if the default right now is Quartz, then I say absolutely, switch to a premade Monaco while we iron out a custom skin. But if the default is in fact Monobook, then I would have to argue to stay with Monobook, because I think we should either be totally unique, or exactly like Wikipedia. So maybe you could clear this up: what is the current default? I think it's that awful yellow quartz, but I honestly am never sure. Endasil (Talk) @ 21:16, 8 May 2008 (UTC) Earthere, what I'm suggesting is that we do the ironing out live, rather than trying to get everything perfect and then implement :) That way people can work on what needs to be changed together. Endasil, thanks for the move, I wasn't sure of the best place :) The current default is Quartz smoke. That's what the database shows, and what I see when I clear all my cookies and my cache (which should reset you right back to the default until you log in again). -- sannse (talk) 22:10, 8 May 2008 (UTC) So the basic Monaco skins are: I'm sure you are going to want "custom", but I think maybe the closest to where you want to end up is "brick". So I suggest switching to "brick" as a starting point, and then making changes as they are agreed. Maybe give it a few days for people to comment and then switch at the end of this week? -- sannse (talk) 10:49, 19 May 2008 (UTC) I'm going to set it to Jade for now. I don't think brick takes us in the right direction, but getting away from Quartz is definitely a step in the right direction. If anybody has a problem with this, by all means, continue to discuss. Endasil (Talk) @ 00:50, 21 May 2008 (UTC) Gaming is the way to go. The dark background "brings out" the colors of item images more than a white background would, and suits RSW as it is a gaming Wiki. File:Rollback crown.svgearth(t) The same thing stopping us from using one of our custom skins right now is stopping us from using Gaming in the mean time. Too many of our templates have bad css which simply don't work on a dark background. We have to fix those before using a skin with a dark body background. After a talk with a bunch of people on IRC, I've switched the default from Jade to Sapphire. Endasil (Talk) @ 02:21, 21 May 2008 (UTC)
