| abstract | - Following the 40th anniversary of the Woodstock festival, A&M Records (which is part of the Universal Music Group) finally released all songs which were performed by Joe Cocker and the Grease Band. This album is the ultimate source for anything Cocker related and the sound quality is just wonderful. The songs of his setlist come from the first two albums which were recorded by Joe Cocker and the Grease Band: With a Little Help from My Friends released in April 1969 and Joe Cocker! released after Woodstock in November 1969. The song "With a Little Help from My Friends" was already a number one hit in the UK in November 1968. On his albums he mainly used songs which were written by other artists - Bob Dylan or The Beatles, to name a few - he had dedicated session musicians and enough room for a good production. On stage he could trust his backing band so he could fully concentrate on singing and guiding the cheering audience through the show. Compared to other bands which focused on stretching the songs through improvisation and extended solos, the members of the Grease Band rarely got a spot for themselves. This makes the gig not less enjoyable. There's a good mix of Rock/R&B songs and ballads. Cocker himself is almost always present and even supported by his background singers, which were in fact men - don't let your ears deceive you!
