abstract
  • The second child of Lee and Lira Beck - both of them, hardworking crop farmers - Varrow Beck was born and raised on the planet, Dantooine, located in the Outer-Rim. The majority of Varrow's childhood and adolescent years were fairly uneventful, as he spent most of his time learning, assisting his parents around the estate, or enganging in one of his own recreational activities - hunting, swoop-racing, or attempting to domesticate the wild animals of Dantooine. Since his family lived far from any sort of educational facility, Varrow's parents had to provide him with private tutors, whose lessons and advice were usually ineffective on the young boy, as he found daydreaming to be much more rewarding. However, Varrow's fantasizing was not solely limited to inside the classroom; it seemed that no matter where he was or what he was doing, Varrow always carried with him unreasonably large dreams. In contrast, Varrow's older brother, Venice, was a much more practical and realistic person - a characteristic that Lee and Lira Beck showed blatant favoritism for, as opposed to Varrow's wishful nature. Still, even despite the major differences in their personalities, Varrow and Venice always remained close friends. By the time Varrow was sixteen, he, his parents, and a few labor droids were the only ones residing on the estate. Life had become very quiet and very dull - even for a native of Dantooine. Venice had, unsurprisingly, managed to impress the entire family by striking fortune as a successful trader, constantly traveling to new ends of the galaxy. Such a feat was extremely significant in the eyes of Varrow, whose motivations and dreams of flying across the stars had now been rekindled. With a large portion of Venice's profits helping to keep the Beck's farm and estate functioning, Varrow felt comfortable departing from home the day after his eighteenth birthday. The reasons he left include two major points, the first being to gain some respect from his parents, as well as himself, and the second being because he was simply bored. Varrow told his parents that he was joining the military in a letter he left for them, writing: Don't worry about me, I'll be fine. You'll probably see me again the next time you turn on the holo-news and see something about 'The Hero of the New Republic.'Family Varrow and his family resided on a farming estate since before he was born. They were far from any other cities or settlements, and as a result Varrow never made many friends. His brother was one of the few people that Varrow could regularly spend time with, and, for as different as the two may have seemed, both shared a common love for fun. In between the long hours spent maintaining the farm, Varrow and his brother took time for themselves to race speeder bikes and go hunting - without alerting their parents' attention of course. Though Lee and Lira Beck loved both their children, Varrow always felt that they held a bit more admiration for Venice, their firstborn. In Varrow's eyes, Venice seemed to directly resemble his parents in both physical appearance and persona. Meanwhile, Varrow thought of himself as too different and too seperated, in a number of aspects, for his parents to view him as highly as they did Venice.Appearance and Personality Though technically average for human size, Varrow rarely meets other fully grown men noticeably shorter than him. His body is lithe and composed of lean muscle, a characteristic that makes him seem less fit and capable than he actually is. Due to a life of laboring outside beneath the sunlight, Varrow's skin has taken on a dark, olive tone, complimenting his earthy eyes and brown hair, which flows long and loose. The traits that make up Varrow's peronsality are often apparent within his appearance alone, his fun-loving, humurous nature nearly impossible to miss just beyond the sly grin almost always stretched across his face. He is hopelessly optimistic and constantly tries to better himself as well as those around him - though he may not always prove successful. And although he generally carries a cheerful disposition, Varrow is easily unnerved by displays of undeserved self-pity.
