  • John Melbourne Howard (10 August 1913 – 10 August 1982) was an accountant and politician. Born in Warlingham, Surrey, he was the eldest son of Harry Howard. Educated at Whitgift School, South Croydon, he became an Associate of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in 1935 and a Fellow in 1945. He was a partner to two companies of chartered accountants and a director of a number of companies. In 1951 he was Conservative parliamentary candidate in Hammersmith North, without success. He retired to Le Lavandou, France, where he died on his 69th birthday.

  • John Melbourne Howard (10 August 1913 – 10 August 1982) was an accountant and politician. Born in Warlingham, Surrey, he was the eldest son of Harry Howard. Educated at Whitgift School, South Croydon, he became an Associate of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in 1935 and a Fellow in 1945. He was a partner to two companies of chartered accountants and a director of a number of companies. In the 1945 general election, Howard stood as a Liberal in Croydon North, coming third. He joined the Conservative Party and became a member of the London County Council representing Hammersmith South in 1949. In 1951 he was Conservative parliamentary candidate in Hammersmith North, without success. In March 1952 he lost his seat on the London County Council, but was able to return to the council as an alderman in the following month. He finally resigned from the county council in January 1954. In 1955 he was elected to the House of Commons as member of parliament for Southampton Test, holding the seat until 1964. He retired to Le Lavandou, France, where he died on his 69th birthday.
